7. Stock markets around the world fall due to fears of a possible recession in the US

Fears of a recession in the United States, disappointing results from some major technology companies and the effects of rising interest rates in Japan dragged down stock markets around the world on Monday, August 5, from Asia to Wall Street.

Market nervousness began on Thursday, August 2, after the publication of worse-than-expected data on employment and industrial activity in the US, and intensified on Friday, August 3, when the cooling of the US labor market became apparent, reported the EFE news agency.

This factor is compounded by the rise in interest rates in Japan, which has led investors who had borrowed in yen to invest in other more profitable assets (‘carry trade’) to sell them to settle their debt.
