On Saturday, July 13, opposition leader María Corina Machado arrived in the city of Valencia, in Carabobo, despite obstacles imposed by state security officials. The former opposition primary candidate, Carlos Prosperi, announced his support for Nicolás Maduro’s candidacy for reelection in the presidential elections.
Additionally, the Venevisión channel banned the use of its musical anthem during the campaign for the elections of July 28, while the Costa Rican government announced that it will extradite to Chile the Venezuelan detained on suspicion of the murder of former military officer Ronald Ojeda.
On the international front, the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip’s Ministry of Health reported that the death toll from the Israeli attack on the Mawasi humanitarian zone in the southern Gaza Strip has risen to 90. In sports, the Czech tennis player was crowned Wimbledon champion.

1. María Corina Machado arrived in Carabobo despite obstacles on her journey
Opposition leader María Corina Machado arrived in the city of Valencia, in the state of Carabobo, to participate in the “Caravan of Freedom” with Edmundo González, candidate of the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) for the presidential elections on July 28. The political leaders managed to meet with their supporters on Cedeño Avenue, despite the obstacles to prevent the caravan.
On the morning of July 13, social media users reported that state security forces had placed obstacles to prevent Machado from traveling on the Regional Central Highway near Las Tejerías (Aragua).
In videos shared by users on X, the political leader can be seen getting out of the vehicle to talk to police officers.
Later, the Vente Venezuela party shared a video in which Machado can be seen traveling in a caravan of motorcycles, due to roadblocks on the road to Valencia.
Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for president of the United States, was injured during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania (USA) on Saturday, July 13.
Security officials removed Trump from the stage following gunshots were heard at the scene. The shooting began shortly following the former US president began his speech at the event.
Videos circulating on social media show Trump holding his ear and blood on part of his face. It is not yet known what happened.

Former opposition primary candidate Carlos Prosperi has declared himself independent and announced his support for Nicolás Maduro’s candidacy for re-election in the July 28 presidential elections.
“After a campaign of deceptive offers, the abuses began in front of those of us who saw the irregularities in the campaign. Today we want to tell the people that this sustained practice was not only carried out once morest Governor Rosales and once morest me, with hateful language and divisions. In his speech, he said that Maduro is the only one who can sustain and guarantee dialogue in the country. He asked the president to convene a “government of national unity” with the aim of contributing to returning “the future and peace” to Venezuelans.
4. Venevisión banned the use of its musical anthem in the electoral campaign
The private channel Venevisión said on Saturday, July 13, that it will consider possible legal action in response to the unauthorized use of its anthem in political events in the run-up to the July 28 presidential election. The song has been used during rallies by President Nicolás Maduro.
“Cisneros Media and Venevisión inform the public that they have not authorized, nor will they authorize, the use of their name, emblem or logo, as well as their musical anthem, for political, proselytizing, commercial or lucrative purposes,” the company said in a statement.
The channel announced that it “reserves the right to take all possible legal action” if unauthorized and unlawful uses continue.
“Venevisión demands and urges candidates, parties or associations with political ends to show due respect and consideration, and not to continue using its trademarks and musical themes, given that these have the approval and absolute protection granted by the Constitution and industrial property and copyright laws,” the document adds.
Costa Rican authorities announced on July 13 that the country’s Supreme Court is processing Chile’s request to extradite Venezuelan Maickel Villegas, suspected of the murder of former Venezuelan military officer Ronald Ojeda.
“The extradition request requested by the Chilean Foreign Ministry in relation to the Venezuelan citizen Villegas was formally received by the Costa Rican Foreign Ministry and immediately transferred to the Secretariat of the Costa Rican Supreme Court of Justice for the due activation of the extradition procedure,” reported the Costa Rican Ministry of Security.
Villegas, 27, is currently detained and under reinforced custody by the Costa Rican Immigration Police in a center under high security conditions, the agency said.
The Venezuelan was arrested on July 12 by the Professional Immigration Police in Paso Canoas, on the border between Costa Rica and Panama, when he tried to enter from that country on a bus that is part of the program for the controlled and safe flow of migrants who cross the continent with their final destination being the United States.
6. Death toll rises to 90 in Mawasi attack to kill Hamas’ No. 2
The Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip’s health ministry said the death toll from an Israeli attack on the Mawasi humanitarian zone in the southern Gaza Strip, which was aimed at killing the Islamist group’s military chief in the enclave, Mohamed Deif, had risen to 90.
The agency said half of the dead were children and women. It added that the bombing also left 300 people injured, some in critical condition.
The attack took place in the Mawasi area, west of the city of Khan Yunis, designated a “humanitarian zone” by Israeli forces at the start of their operation in the southern town of Rafah in early May.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there was “no certainty” regarding the deaths of Deif and his right-hand man Rafaa Salameh.
