According to the NOTAM issued by the entity, the measure extends until October 30 the suspension of flights with these countries.

The suspension of this air connectivity leaves Venezuela without 95 weekly flights: 41 to the Dominican Republic; 47 to Panama and 7 to Peru, according to data from Marisela De Loaiza, president of the Venezuelan Airlines Association (ALAV).

Excessive increase in flight rates

The aeronautical lawyer, Rodolfo Ruizassured that this extension affects Venezuelans. He warned of a “brutal increase” in flight rates.

«We have to wait until October 30 to see if the conditions change. We have seen an increase compared to rates that we observed just two months ago. Rates that were at $180 are now at $1700 and up to $1800 for flights of one and a half hours.”he said in an interview with journalist Shirley Vernagy.

What is the reason for this suspension of flights?

On July 29, the administration of Nicolás Maduro announced the suspension of flights to and from Panama and the Dominican Republic, which would later be joined by Peru.

The reason for the decision obeys a political context. The presidents of these countries, José Raúl Mulino (Panama) and Luis Abinader (Dominican Republic), were unaware of the electoral results issued by the CNE in the presidential election on July 28.

“In rejection of the interference of right-wing governments based on full sovereignty. We announce the temporary suspension of commercial flights, to and from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela with Panama and the Dominican Republic, as of July 31 at 8:00 pm,” they noted.
