Venezuela adds six new deaths from covid-19

In the last 24 hours, six more people died in Venezuela due to covid-19 to reach 5,436 deaths since the start of the pandemic, reported this Saturday Delcy Rodríguez, vice president of the government of Nicolás Maduro.

“We regret to report that in the last hours six Venezuelans have died from covid-19,” the official said on her Twitter account. He explained that, among the deceased, there were two people from Caracas, one from Mérida, one from Trujillo and one from Zulia.

In addition, he indicated that in the last 24 hours, 2,364 new infections were detected in the country, 2,352 of community transmission and “13 imported.”

Of the latter, four are from Turkey, three from Panama, another three from Peru, two from Syria and one from Chile.

As for local infections, Miranda (a state that is home to a good part of the capital’s metropolitan area) has the most new cases with 1,022. Caracas follows with 474, then Lara with 163, Yaracuy with 134, Zulia with 127, Mérida with 89 and Portuguesa with 48.

Barinas are still on the list with 30 new cases, Cojedes with 29, Carabobo, Sucre and Guárico with 27 each. Then Apure with 20, Aragua and La Guaira with 18 new infections in each state, Anzoátegui and Bolívar with 17 each and Delta Amacuro with 15. Nueva Esparta with 14, Trujillo with 11, Táchira and Amazonas with 8 each entity and Falcón and Monagas. with 4 in each state.

With these figures, Venezuela reaches 481,375 cases of covid-19 confirmed by the authorities since the start of the pandemic. However, 459,467 patients have already recovered (95% of the total), so there are 16,472 active cases.

Nicolás Maduro warned last Sunday that “the omicron variant is not a more lethal variant.” But, equally, “it is coronavirus”, for which he asked “that no one say that it is a flu”.

“The coronavirus is treacherous. We have been handling the situation with great force and I think we can continue handling the situation with great prevention, very carefully. We have reached 96% of adults vaccinated in Venezuela,” he said.

On this occasion, as is often the case, it did not clarify whether that 96% of adults have received a single dose of the vaccine or the two necessary for complete immunization.
