Vendée Globe: the setback, the skippers’ nightmare

2024-10-03 11:00:49

On November 10, the Vendée Globe will start from Les Sables d’Olonne. For skippers, stress is mounting: preserving the boat as the event approaches is essential.

From October 3 to November 10, a lot can happen. A month of stress and pressure for all the skippers competing in the next Vendée Globe. Everything must be ready. The man or woman behind the helm, of course, but also the boat. It is the latter who will face the seas for several weeks. It’s better that it’s in good condition, isn’t it, Arnaud Boissières?

The skipper of the Mie Câline experienced a great misadventure three weeks ago. His giant of the seas hit… a fishing boat. “It’s not pleasant, a setback like this, two months from the major objective of a four-year cycle”assures Arnaud Boissières. “But paradoxically, it gives us new energy, whether it is me or the whole team. »

« The first success of the project is being at the start of the Vendée Globe«

The skipper of the Mie Câline notably had to cancel his participation in the Défi Azimut, an event which would have allowed him to get his bearings. But no matter: Arnaud Boissières finally found his boat this week, in Les Sables d’Olonne. A launch made possible by the commitment of the entire Arnaud Boissières Team, who worked tirelessly in the workshop to repair the starboard side of the IMOCA n°14.

“The first success of the project is being at the start of the Vendée Globe, so we are proud to be able to show that we will be there, despite this incident”underlines Arnaud Boissières. “ This will be my fifth Vendée Globe, it will necessarily be different due to the truncated preparation. But it gives me a new excitement, and it will be a real pleasure to be at sea following this setback. » A Vendée Globe during which the skipper of the Mie Câline will be keen not to come across any new fishing boats…
