First of all, yes, the father of vocalist Griffin Taylor and drummer Simon Crahan is the cornerstone of Slipknot. Yes, there are certain musical comparisons that can’t be dismissed based on vocals alone. But try it anyway sell Talk loudly about standing on your own two feet. The band was founded in 2018 by Taylor and Crahan, who quickly assembled a full lineup and worked on sounds and demos before taking the stage. An EP, a few singles and a variety of top support and festival slots, that’s it “trading” Naming the first album at the starting line.
When “Paint The Sky” reaches its peak shortly after the intro, it becomes chaotic, loud and brutal. An audible nu-metal slant that fits perfectly with the current rampant wave of the nu-metal genre, unleashing a brutal wrecking ball with Taylor shouting hoarsely and angrily. Vending celebrates breathless madness, including a serious meltdown, with a pithy “Welcome to our show.” The depressing, epic “Far Away” that follows allows for some speaking and clear singing, which certainly looks familiar – a pleasant aspect that provides precious shades of gray amidst the nihilistic gradients of deep black.
Vended clearly loves to dissect everything, and Downfall is no exception. The song clocks in at under two minutes and even has a hint of death grind to it, which compares perfectly to a song like “Serenity,” whose huge chorus and punchy hook are hard to get past. Disappear in your ears. It was a rare moment of near-calm amid the ongoing chaos, and a hint at what the American quintet might do next. If this is too “good,” tracks like “Am I The Only One” and “Pitiful” will soon straighten out the picture again… or at least askew it? Brutal madness is incompatible with the most subtle melodic approach.
Ultimately, the album goes by very quickly, especially because its breathless, smaller interludes and other interludes light it up so well. For a long time, Vend has pursued bravely, played with forced comparisons, and found his own sound. Nu and alternative metal work extremely well in the hands of American Formation, who have a clear penchant for loud, chaotic escalations but are also sensitive to short, intense hooks. It’s difficult to estimate where Vended will go at this time. However, their first album created a palpable and well-deserved sense of euphoria.
