Thrissur: Opposition leader VD Satheesan has responded to Muslim League MP PV Abdul Wahab’s criticism that the Congress lacked caution in opposing the only civil code private bill in the Rajya Sabha. Satheesan told the media that the Congress had opposed the Uniform Civil Code in the Rajya Sabha.

Congress member from Kerala JB Mather opposed the bill in the Rajya Sabha. This is in church documents including video. Satheesan also stated that while JB Mehter was speaking once morest the Bill by quoting Gandhi, Nehru and Ambedkar, Union Minister Piyush Goyal intervened. Hanumanthappa, a Congress Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka, has also opposed the bill, Satheesan added.

PV Abdul Wahab remarked that the Congress lacked caution in opposing the only civil code private bill introduced in the Rajya Sabha. He said that he did not criticize the absence of Congress members in the Rajya Sabha when the bill was introduced, but pointed out the situation in Parliament.

The ruling party bench had all the members. There were only a few people in the opposition. Many political parties are running away from the issue. Wahab pointed out that if the Congress is among the fugitives, it should not be told to the League. After his remarks, Wahab stated that some people including JB Mather came to the House and spoke once morest the bill.
