Vienna (OTS/RK) – The Raimund Theater musical house of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (VBW), a Wien Holding company, was the first music theater stage in Austria to receive the Austrian Ecolabel from the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology.

Using a comprehensive catalog of criteria, the Raimund Theater was successfully assessed in the areas of general operations, environmental management, energy, water, waste, air, noise, office, cleaning, chemistry, hygiene, building and living, furnishings, food, kitchen, traffic and outdoor areas. The mandatory criteria were met 100% and the target criteria 181%. The other VBW houses are also expected to follow in the next few years.

Peter Hanke, City Councilor for Finance, Economics, Labor, International Affairs and Wiener Stadtwerke: “Climate change, the use of resources and the future of our environment present our society with enormous challenges. The city of Vienna is meeting these challenges with the Smart Climate City strategy. The certification of the Raimund Theater with the eco-label and the sustainable and ecological management support the goals of the Vienna environmental protection program and make an important contribution to the quality of life in the city.”

“As Wien Holding, it is a matter of course for us to fully support the city of Vienna’s climate goals and implement them sustainably. The United Theaters in Vienna are one of our role model companies within the group and continually provide new ideas, even outside of the mandatory requirements. We are very proud to be setting an example that is visible throughout Austria and want to continue on this successful path together,” says Wien Holding Managing Director Kurt Gollowitzer.

“As a Wien Holding company and a major cultural institution in the City of Vienna, we bear responsibility for a sustainable society. Our goal is therefore to combine sustainability, ecology and the conscious use of resources with our goal of bringing musical theater to the stage at the highest level. After the certification of the Raimund Theater, the Theater an der Wien and the Ronacher, which are currently being renovated, will now follow,” said Franz Patay, managing director of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, giving an outlook.

Christian Struppeck, musical director of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien: “The Raimund Theater celebrated its 130th anniversary in November 2023. However, its age can only be seen in the long list of artistic productions and well-known actors. Since the renovation, the theater has been state of the art. The award with the Austrian Ecolabel confirms our path to the harmonious combination of a sense of tradition and a sustainable future orientation!”

The Austrian environmental label

The Austrian Environmental Label was launched in 1990 on the initiative of the Ministry of the Environment and is now considered the most important state-certified environmental seal in Austria. It is awarded in the categories of products & services, tourism & catering establishments, educational institutions, green meetings & events and art & culture – since 2022 also for theater and cinema establishments. The striking award was artistically designed by the Austrian art and environmental pioneer Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

The Raimund Theater 2024

The VBW musical thriller REBECCA can be experienced in the Raimund Theater until January 7, 2024. In March the curtain will rise on Cameron Macintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.
