Vaulx-en-Velin. The extraordinary mobilization of volunteers after the fatal fire

Third day of excitement at the Espace Victor-Jara this Sunday, December 18. Solidarity continues at the Mas du Taureau in Vaulx-en-Velin following the tragic fire that claimed the lives of ten residents of 12 chemin des Barques, including five children, on the night of Thursday to Friday.

For two days they were hundreds of volunteers collecting donations for the survivors of the tragedy. It would be time-consuming to cite all the associations (Sahbi, Avas, Maraude united, Muslim hands, M sport, etc.) as there were so many of them to get involved, each in their own way.

“Some have traveled four hours to give”

“From the first day, we received a lot of donations, to the point of having to refuse them so as not to be overwhelmed”, confirms Aïssata Ndiaye, president of the Vaud association Cœur banlieu’zhar. “We filled a 14 m³ truck at least four times,” calculates Sami, a volunteer. Enough to fill a swimming pool of 10 meters by four. Donors poured in from all over.. “Some have driven four hours just to offer what they had”, appreciates Sami before listing examples: Saint-Quentin-Fallavier in Isère, Saint-Étienne in the Loire, Le Puy-en-Velay in Haute -Loire and even Paris!

This Sunday, around thirty volunteers were still responsible for putting together packages according to the specific needs of each victim.
