The January 24 attack on a man living on avenue du 24-Janvier in Renens (VD) was imaginary.

The devil is in the details. And in the narration of the acts of robbery of which a thirty-year-old from Renens (VD) claimed to have been a victim, several disturbing details were likely to cast doubt on his credibility. Residing at avenue du 24-Janvier, the man says he was attacked on January 24, 2022 by a masked individual as he left his home to fill up with gas around 11:30 p.m.

Extension of the list of stolen goods

According to him, the brigand made him fall and left with his purse which contained 1800 fr. But, ten days later, the greedy thirty-something took advantage of a telephone conversation with the police in western Lausanne to extend the list of goods taken away. The 30-year-old claimed to have forgotten to declare that a coffee machine and a game console that were in the vehicle had also been taken by the assailant.

He contacted his RC insurance to report the robbery. But his attitude and his statements ended up arousing suspicion. Pressed with questions, he broke down and admitted that the attack had been scripted by his overflowing imagination.

The man, whose criminal record was clean, was sentenced to a day-fine with a two-year suspended sentence. He also had to pay a fine of 900 fr. and 675 fr. procedural costs.
