A Year of Solidarity and Volunteering Such a high result is primarily the result of the commitment to support refugees from Ukraine arriving in Warsaw. The inhabitants of the capital showed great hearts in the face of this challenge. They proved that helping others is part of the Warsaw identity. More than 12,000 volunteers volunteered for refugees from Ukraine, organized by the city. people. Non-governmental organizations and institutions also engaged crowds of volunteers. Private companies organized employee volunteering within their structures. There were also many grassroots initiatives in which thousands of Varsovians were involved.

– Together, as residents of the capital, we showed great solidarity with our brothers and sisters fighting for freedom. It is thanks to you that we were able to offer them not only accommodation and a warm meal, but also a big heart. I would like to thank each and every one of you for getting involved in volunteering in such large numbers – says the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski.

Volunteering is not the only form of support that Varsovians provided to refugees from Ukraine. According to our survey in March 2022, 74 percent. of adult residents of the capital were involved in some form of assistance, e.g. financial support or material collections.

The city supports the development of volunteering on a daily basis Varsovians engage in social activities on a daily basis, regardless of emerging crises.
