Although the chip A17 Pro — the only one for commercial smartphones produced with a 3 nanometer process — is the most powerful in terms of processing today, users of the iPhones 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have been constantly complaining about choking and the loss of performance observed when devices are performing heavier tasks — which could end up taking away from Apple’s smartphones this leadership with the next generation of top-of-the-line Android devices.
But this problem, it seems, could be easily resolved if the Apple invest in a more efficient heat dissipation system — like a vapor chamber, for example. An experiment by a Chinese creator, whose name was not revealed, gives us a preview of how technology could improve the use of Apple devices. Overall, the modification with the vapor chamber caused the smartphone’s average temperature to decrease by 10% in reference tests, carried out especially with software that requires great firepower from the device. In AnTuTu, one of the most well-known and highly regarded benchmarks, there was an improvement of up to 9.1% in the device’s score. At the benchmark 3DMark Solar Bar Unlimited, a performance improvement was also observed.
Another highlighted test was with Genshin Impact, one of the games whose execution on iPhones 15 Pro has been the target of complaints due to constant choking and dropped frames per second. To give you an idea, while on the unmodified device the rate was around 51.2fps, the modified iPhone was able to maintain an average rate of 59.6fps — a considerable improvement that makes us deduce that the potential of the A17 Pro is far from being fully explored.
