Vanhaezebrouck wonders about the selection of Anderlechtois at the Devils: “It’s not normal”

The remarks made by Hein Vanhaezebrouck Friday in the podcast show ‘Stropcast’ broadcast by La Gantoise are causing a stir this Saturday in the north of the country. The Buffalo’s coach was indeed very perplexed regarding the selection of certain Anderlecht players with the Red Devils.

Asked by his interlocutor regarding the presence of Yari Verschaeren et Francis Have fun and the lack of Matisse Samoise (Ghent) in a list of preselected which circulated for the matches of the Red Devils, Vanhaezebrouck did not hesitate to answer: “It’s linked to the color of the shirt.”

The former Mauves coach, now with the Buffalo’s, then developed his reasoning.

“Verschaeren had been called up to the national team when he had just started to show up. It’s unimaginable. He wasn’t even a starter at Anderlecht yet and he’s been called up to the Red Devils. It’s incomprehensible. It’s not normal. Debast is also called up immediately… he hasn’t even played a single game with the Espoirs yet.” commented HVH before insisting in the same direction.

“It’s linked to the color of the jersey. How can you not see it? I find it unimaginable. Be careful, Debast is a good player! He’s a talent. But from there to selecting him following five matches with Anderlecht (Editor’s note: 14 this season)… Anderlecht which is – I remind you – lower ranked than us. If they had been at the top of the championship, I would have said, ok wow […] Obviously, for a club all this is very interesting. If your player suddenly becomes a Red Devil, their value doubles or triples in no time. I find that very striking. People have to ask themselves questions… and it’s not the first time it’s happened.” affirmed Vanhaezebrouck before tackling other topics.
