Elias Pettersson and Pius Suter scored doubles and the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Ottawa Senators 6-3 on Tuesday night.

The Sens woke up too late following falling into a 0-5 abyss in the first period. Claude Giroux scored in the second period before contributing to Vladimir Tarasenko’s goal, who hit the target twice in the third, but the task was too heavy once morest the leaders of the Pacific Division.

Tim Stützle collected two assists in the defeat. The Senators were beginning a five-game road trip.

The loss comes following the Senators removed Steve Staios as interim general manager on Sunday. Dave Poulin has been named senior vice-president of hockey operations.

Anton Forsberg was responsible for the first four goals on 13 Canucks shots, from Ian Cole, JT Miller, Suter and Pettersson.

Joonas Korpisalo was unable to stop this debacle when he replaced Forsberg in front of the cage. Pettersson added a fifth unanswered goal for the Canucks on the power play, his shot being deflected by an Ottawa defender.

Suter completed the scoring on a leaping shot that eluded Korpisalo, then Thatcher Demko took care of the rest by stopping 35 of the 38 shots aimed his way.
