Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has confirmed that it would be a dream if the team won the almost impossible quartet this season.
Liverpool had qualified for the FA Cup final for the first time since Jurgen Klopp took over as coach of the team after defeating Manchester City in the semi-finals.
Van Dijk said afterwards: “All this talk about a quartet or a treble is coming from the outside world, and it could put more pressure on us.”
He added: “No team has ever won the quartet. There is a reason for this – because it is almost impossible to achieve this.”
He stressed, “It is something that everyone dreams of, to win all the competitions in which he participates, but we will see what happens.”
He added, “Manchester City is still at the top of the English Premier League table, and we face Villarreal in the Champions League semi-finals, which will be a very difficult confrontation.”
And he added: “Anything can happen, with other teams as well. We are thinking about each match separately.”
“We cannot guarantee the readiness of everyone,” he stressed.
And the British news agency “BA Media” reported that Van Dyck’s fitness and level have been under scrutiny since he returned to the team last August after a 10-month absence to undergo surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee.
The victory over Manchester City is the first victory for Liverpool against Manchester City in the last six matches, as they have previously tied 2/2 twice this season.
But while the two are separated by a single point in the league table, Trent Alexander-Arnold doesn’t think its psychological impact will be significant.
“I don’t think we as a team need to perform to gain confidence,” he said.
He added: “We look at the dressing room, we look at the coach and the players, and we find what we want: things speak for themselves.”
And he added, “I can only talk about our mentality. Every game we go into we want to win and we kind of expect to win it.”
