(Archyde.com, Kyiv, 4th) President of the European Union Executive Commission (European Commission) Van der Leyen visited the Ukrainian capital Kyiv today to discuss the progress of Ukraine’s application to join the European Union (EU) and other issues. The EU was scheduled to submit a report on Ukraine’s accession progress next week.

Ursula von der Leyen posted on social media Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the train station.

Van der Leyen also wrote: “I am here to discuss Ukraine’s EU accession process (and) the EU’s financial assistance to rebuild Ukraine into a modern, prosperous democracy. And how we will continue to enable Russia to Pay the price for its war of aggression.”

The EU will release an assessment report on the 8th, detailing Ukraine’s progress in meeting various economic, legal and other standards for EU accession, paving the way for the launch of EU accession negotiations in December.

After Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February last year, Kyiv applied to join the EU within days and regarded accession as its top priority.

The 27 EU member states will hold a summit in December, at which they will decide whether to allow Ukraine to start accession negotiations, which requires the consent of all member states. Central News Agency (translation)
