Valve’s Possible Abandonment of Dota Pro Circuit: Insights from Yaroslav NS Kuznetsov

Streamer and analyst Yaroslav NS Kuznetsov said that Valve may abandon the Dota Pro Circuit system in the next competitive season of Dota 2. Kuznetsov spoke about this during a live broadcast on Twitch, but nothing is officially known about the cancellation of the DPC.

There is an insider, absolutely incomprehensible where it came from, that next season there will be no DPC, but again there will be a system with just a bunch of commercial tournaments. <...> This is some kind of rumor that someone constantly tells – different people. I’m standing somewhere and someone just says, “Yeah, there won’t be a DPC.” It goes in one ear and out the other. And then on the other side someone: “Listen, I heard that there won’t be DPC there” (laughs).

The Dota Pro Circuit is a system of regional Dota 2 leagues and tournaments that award DPC points. At the end of the season, the teams with the most points receive slots in the championship of The International series. Other Dota Pro Circuit participants are playing for the remaining quotas in the regional qualifiers.

Valve launched the DPC system after The International 2017. Previously, Dota 2 developers themselves determined which teams would receive an invitation to the main tournament of the year.
