If you cannot order a Steam Deck, you can always print its outer shell.
In the past few days we have been able admire the Steam Deck in picturesand even discover at its dismantling by Linus. Alas, those who weren’t among the first to reserve a copy at the time of the announcement in July must now wait until at least next August to place an order. People who own a 3D printer can however console themselves by making a Steam Deck, not functional of course: Vavle indeed offers the CAD files (computer-aided design) of the outer shell of the Steam Deck.
Valve writes: ” Hello ! We have good news for DIY enthusiasts, prop companies, and anyone looking to 3D print their own Steam Deck replica. CAD files of the outer shell (surface topology) of Steam Deck are available today for download, licensed under Creative Commons. This includes models in STP, STL and DWG formats. Steam Deck: around 300 games have now passed the certification program
300 mm
The Steam Deck measures 298.3 x 118.11 x 49.80mm. As a result, making a life-size model requires a 3D printer with an X axis of at least 300mm. Otherwise, it is always possible to make a model smaller than the original.
let’s remember that Valve will start shipping working Steam Decks from February 28. The console is powered by a Custom APU signed AMD, code name Aerith, which combines Zen 2 and RDNA2 chips. The CPU part includes 4 cores / 8 Zen 2 threads and offers computing power announced at 448 Gflops FP32. On the graphics side, there are 8 RDNA2 cores which deliver up to 1.6 Tflops FP32 of performance. The APU has a maximum TDP of 15 W.
