Russia resorts to another crime: the theft of cultural values. Valuables stolen by the Russian Federation in Ukraine began to appear on the international black market.
This was stated by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine via Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
“In addition to the systematic destruction of cultural heritage, Russia resorts to another crime: the theft of cultural values. These objects, stolen from our museums and archaeological sites, now appear on the international black market. We already have enough evidence to open new criminal proceedings for these crimes,” said Ukraine’s Attorney General Andriy Kostin after his meeting in Washington with a special FBI team specialized in investigating crimes against cultural heritage.
The attorney general also noted that thanks to close cooperation with colleagues from the FBI and the US Department of Justice, the Attorney General’s Office was able to collect all the necessary information on this category of crimes.
“Based on the information received, we created a special unit in my office. This unit not only investigates cases of destruction of cultural heritage as a result of bombing, but also cases where our cultural heritage attempts to be sold illegally abroad” Kostin said.
As reported by Ukrinform, on September 29, Attorney General Andriy Kostin held an official meeting with US Attorney General Merrick Garland and the team of the US Department of Justice, during which they discussed cooperation in priority areas .
