Valuable lessons learned from the Mini Cummins

The lessons that the Mini Cummins leaves behind will be a fundamental part of the personal growth of its young sailors, as was evident yesterday, on a day of light morning wind that made the teams work hard to cover the races.

“It’s the best thing, being able to learn to overcome adversity, they are the only ones with their sailboats,” said former Olympian Pedro Pablo Silveira Cervera, encouraging the competitors, who have been trying their hand at sailing on Hobie Cats since they were 7 years old, out at sea.

Yesterday, a hundred children and youth sailors set out to sea to complete the second stage of the Mini Cummins, encouraged by their parents and relatives, who were either on the beach at Marina Silcer or at sea, in boats, following the competition.

“It is important to win, yes, because it motivates, but for them, for beginners, the best thing is to learn to sail in these conditions, when the wind is weak, you have to learn to balance the sailboat, to move. And when there are strong winds, the best thing is to gain courage, based on impetus, building courage,” added Silveira Cervera, who competed in windsurfing at the Athens Games in 1996.

Today the stage will be set for the competition of those who will seek supremacy in the Cummins Cup for adults, between great international sailors, and young people who are making their way, many of them from the Mini Cummins.

The Cup will be held with regattas from today to Sunday, the day of the awards ceremony, in the followingnoon.— Gaspar Silveira
