We knew him rapper engaged then political activist. Today, it is as a vlogger that Valsero hits the headlines. Every day, he acts as a society psychiatrist and posts videos recorded in his virtual clinic on his Facebook page. Images viewed daily by tens of thousands of people and which delight its many subscribers on social networks.
Installed in Italy, far from his native Yaoundé, Valsero these days crosses swords with the Cameroonian authorities. At the end of March, he announced that the police in his country had refused to renew his passport, which expires in early June. A political affair, according to “the general”, who never hesitated to publicly challenge Paul Biya.
Jeune Afrique: Your passport is regarding to expire and has still not been renewed. You consider this to be a political decision. For what ?
Valsero : Because Cameroon’s ambassador to Italy told my lawyer. If my passport was not fabricated, it is due to a decision of his superiors, he explained. Asked why, he replied that it must be “because of political problems”.
This is a very clear answer, which leaves no room for nuance. Because of a difference of opinion, people can use the machine of the state to render citizens stateless, as I am in the process of becoming. We can only regret that democracy has regressed so much in Cameroon and that some citizens are forced into exile.
Behind this refusal to renew my passport, there is also this need to disqualify me, to isolate myself, and to make my speech less powerful. They say to themselves that by taking away my passport and therefore my nationality, they will succeed in diluting my impact.
You are one of those who demand that the truth be established on the murder of Martinez Zogo. Why is this so important to you?
Because it’s regarding justice, human rights and public safety. Look at the quality of actors who are involved or suspected of being involved. We are talking regarding people who are at the highest peak in our country. We are in a situation where a citizen has used the means of the State, in this case its security and intelligence services, to coldly assassinate another citizen inside the territory itself. The Zogo affair is much more than an assassination story, and that is why it shocked Cameroonians.
