Valorization of agricultural areas with high productivity: Gabon signs an agreement signed with OAM International – VivAfrik

Gabon has concluded a partnership agreement with the Indian group OAM International. It was signed on July 20, 2022 by the Gabonese Minister for Investment Promotion, on the sidelines of the 17th edition of the India-Africa Conclave held on July 19 and 20, 2022 in New Delhi, India. The new agreement aims to establish a bilateral cooperation framework focused on the development of High Productivity Agricultural Zones (ZAP).

Gabon aims through this signature to multiply its efforts and initiatives in the agricultural sector, in order to achieve its objectives of food self-sufficiency. This sector currently represents less than 5% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

This signature “will make it possible to enhance the high agricultural productivity zone of Andem” in the Estuary province. It will also contribute to “creating direct and indirect jobs, but also to reducing imports by more than 50%”, relayed Le Nouveau Gabon.

The agricultural zone of Andem was created in 2020 by the government with four others, with the aim of developing agriculture on the basis of land organized around production basins across the country. This is cadastral land available to promote agriculture, added the source cited above.

By 2025, Gabon plans to produce more than 50% of its food consumption locally. This will enable it to increase the share of agriculture (currently 5%) in its gross domestic product.
