Valíeva’s defense alleges that she was contaminated with medicine from her grandfather | sports

The defense of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valíeva alleges that her positive for doping is due to inadvertent contamination with a drug from her grandfather.

This was revealed today in Beijing by IOC member Denis Oswald.

Valíeva tested positive in a control carried out on April 25. The banned substance trimetazidine, which is used to treat angina pectoris, was found in her urine.

“His argument is that it was contamination with a product that his grandfather takes,” Oswald said.

The 15-year-old skater will play the individual competition on Tuesday, following winning the team gold a day before the result of that control was known.

Valíeva, who in principle was provisionally suspended, was authorized to compete by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), due to the “irreparable damage” that being out of the Games would cause her without being able to go into the merits of the case, and considering his age.
