The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Valencian Community will promote a strategy pig support in collaboration with the sector itself.
This was agreed at a conference held on Wednesday, January 10 in Zaragoza in which the counselor, Jose Luis Aguirrehas addressed, together with his counterparts from Aragon, Castilla y León and Extremadura and representatives of the pork sector at the national level, the possible formulas to promote meat consumption and defend producers from the “unjustified attacks without scientific basis to which “They are subjected.”
Aguirre has defended that intensive livestock farming in the Valencian Community (pigs and poultry) is “key” within production agrarian end valencian
In addition, he pointed out, however, that “intensive livestock farming has been demonized for years, when in reality it is the livestock farming that has had to be most professionalized and assume costs, in an exemplary way, to adapt to health regulationsenvironmental and animal welfare, being a true example for the European Union.”
In this sense, he added that all this modernization effort “it must be taken into account, and the Administration must make things easy for them so that they continue to be able to adapt to the most demanding regulations regarding health, animal and environmental welfare worldwide”.
During the day, Aguirre explained that this event has served to “listen to statements of the different regions and try to implement the best measures so that the sector can move forward.”
The counselor, as well as his counterparts from the other autonomous communities and several of the representatives of the pork sector and other livestock farmers present at the event, have advocated starting to see the slurry management as an opportunity and not as a problem.
Along the same lines, they have assured that in competitiveness “we are unique”, following having grown while other countries fell because they are becoming many things right in genetics and innovation.
On the other hand, the director of the National Association of Pig Cattle Producers, Miguel Angel Higuerahas pointed out that the sector has “a series of difficulties that make it need the support of the Administration, highlighting the health risks due to the advance of African swine fever which would be devastating if it reached Spain and the enormous concern regarding the excessive increase in the wild boar population, which is being the main spreader of this disease in Europe”.
During the day the four councilors agreed on the joint collaboration necessary of administration and the sector itself to develop, together, a strategy that promotes Spanish pork.
