A year ago, a 9-year-old boy died on skis in Saas-Fee. The person watching him was convicted of negligent homicide.
The weather was wonderful on March 5, 2021. A woman and three children were enjoying a day of skiing in Saas-Fee. In the early followingnoon, the small group left the secured tracks above the Feegletscher. The mother and her two children knew the area well, but not the third toddler invited for the first time to ski with them. The goal was to jump on a rock that the mother’s two children knew well and had already used as a springboard.
The mother got under the jump and started shooting a video. His two children made it over the bump with no problem. As the “Walliser Bote” was able to read in the penal order he consulted, the third child raised his ski pole to signal that he was rushing. But he approached the bump too quickly and started a turn to join the group. He then attempted to brake but was unable to stop and tumbled down a sheer rock face before crashing into the glacier. Due to his severe spinal cord injuries, he died instantly.

The mother was found guilty of negligent homicide by the Haut-Valais public prosecutor. He set a financial penalty of 180 day-fines at 50 francs, with a probation period of two years. The woman must also pay a fine of 500 francs as well as 8,400 francs in procedural costs. The defendant having accepted the penal order, the judgment therefore entered into force.
