Vaccination pass: last rounds in Parliament before its adoption

The parliamentary re-entry rhymes with sanitary. From this Monday followingnoon, the deputies will get down to examining the text transforming the health pass into a vaccination pass. Coming out of the commission, the government bill wants to put a little more pressure on non-vaccinated French people over 12 years old who, failing to be able to justify a vaccination status, will no longer have access to leisure activities, restaurants and bars, fairs or interregional public transport. It also provides for tougher sanctions once morest holders of false passes.

Against the opinion of the rapporteur (LREM), the deputies also voted in committee for an amendment by the deputy (LREM) Sacha Houlié to adapt the gauges in the stadiums and rooms, in proportion to their reception capacity. The measure may not remain in session. On the other hand, the organizers of a political rally will be allowed to request a health pass, thanks to an amendment from the right which the minister did not oppose.

The PS and LR will vote for “in principle”

Nothing should derail the adoption of the text. In opposition, the Socialist group and that of the Republicans said they would vote “on principle” for the vaccine pass, despite reservations. The PS has been pleading for months for a real “vaccine obligation” and the right would like “firmer” health measures.

The most offensive remain the Insoumis, depositaries of several dozen amendments. They denounce an “ineffective and dangerous” measure and the Communists have announced that they will oppose the bill. The National Rally for its part castigates “an increasingly heavy loss of our individual freedoms”. More isolated, the deputy (LREM) Pacôme Rupin proposed an amendment – rejected – to delete the vaccination pass, “useless” in his eyes.

These protesters remain insufficient, but tensions around the future law remain high, while an online petition saying “No to discrimination once morest the French” is booming and threats to elected officials intensify.

Senators more reluctant

This Wednesday, the examination promises to be more vigorous in the Senate, led by the right. The sourcilleux Philippe Bas (LR), who must be rapporteur of the text, criticized the vaccination pass in an interview with Public Senate, a choice “wait and see and an optimistic bet” of the government. One specific point does not pass: identity verification carried out by professionals in establishments open to the public. “The government tried to pass this measure last July and gave it up because of parliamentary opposition. He will have to argue a lot if he wants to convince me, ”warns the senator.

Other elected officials have expressed their reluctance. Senator (LR) Sylvie Goy-Chavent announced that she would vote once morest the vaccine pass, “a serious decline in our freedoms”. Just like the centrist senator Loïc Hervé, who denounces “a tool heavily attacking public freedoms and to which the French are getting used”.
