Vaccination against COVID-19: recommendations may be adjusted

If COVID-19 is still present in Quebec and on the increase a few days before Christmas Eve, a committee is currently working to adjust the recommendations for vaccination, according to the national director of public health in Quebec.

With nearly 75% of Quebecers who have already had COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, the situation is changing regarding the period between booster doses of the vaccine, said Dr. Luc Boileau at the microphone of QUB radio, Thursday.

“We are working on adjusting the recommendations. What we observe is that someone who has already had COVID and who has acquired immunity through vaccination is quite well protected, and this protection can probably last longer than six months, ”a- he explained.

Quebecers who have not yet caught the virus must continue to get their booster dose following six months, reminded Dr. Boileau all the same, particularly among people at risk.

At the same time, the triple epidemic of respiratory viruses is slowly starting to subside in the province, with a drop in cases of influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). However, COVID is still very present, forcing citizens to be on their guard during the holiday season.

“Please, even though it’s fun to have the opportunity to meet once more [si on est malade], we’re not going. A mask will not be enough […] It can be useful, it’s better than nothing, but it’s not the solution. The solution is not to be in contact with others,” said Dr. Boileau.

“These are contexts of very great rapprochements, so that’s perfect for a virus, it circulates easily in there,” he added.
