On a via ferrata tour on the Drachenwand, a 34-year-old German triggered a mountain rescue operation on Wednesday: The woman climbed the C/D moderately difficult ferrata in the morning and reached the exit of the via ferrata with the summit cross around 12 noon. Her plan was to descend via the marked Hirschsteig to the starting point in St. Lorenz.
Error only noticed following four hours
She made a big mistake: she missed the turnoff following the first dragon hole and continued walking along the ridge to the west. Only following regarding four hours did the mountaineer realize her mistake and turned around. Around 6 p.m., when her mobile phone battery was almost empty, the young woman made an emergency call. The emergency services might no longer contact the woman because of the empty battery.
Ten mountain rescuers on duty
While ten mountain rescuers and an alpine police officer set off, the 34-year-old hiked on towards the main Drachenwand summit, where she met a mountaineer. This informed the mountain rescue service and announced that the 34-year-old was unharmed. She accompanied the vacationer until the mountain rescuers met the two women on the Hirschsteig and brought them safely down into the valley.
