Vacancy motion puts Dina Boluarte in check

The recent presentation of a vacancy motion against the president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, generated an intense political debate and called into question her permanence in office. However, the president renewed her cabinet by changing six ministers, when she is immersed in the crisis over the Rolex luxury watches case.

The origin of this controversy dates back to the revelation that Boluarte would have several luxury items from the prestigious Swiss brand, valued at thousands of dollars, whose origin was not declared and which are presumed “were given away.”

The change of ministers occurs two days before the Prime Minister, Gustavo Adrianzén, goes to Congress to ask for his vote of confidence, which is why the president accelerated the reconformation of the Executive just hours after the departure of the already former ministers.

In a ceremony held at the Government Palace, the head of state swore in six new members of the cabinet, out of a total of 18 ministries in the Peruvian Executive.

With these changes in the cabinet, the Peruvian Executive will face the plenary session of Congress next Wednesday with the expectation of obtaining the vote of confidence from the opposition benches, which this weekend supported the president after the proceedings initiated by the Prosecutor’s Office. , such as the search of his home and Government Palace, for the alleged crimes of illicit enrichment and failure to declare.

In response to complaints of possible irregularities in Dina Boluarte’s assets, a vacancy motion was presented in the Congress of the Republic against the president. This political appeal seeks to remove her from her position as minister, arguing that her behavior and suspicions of corruption tarnish the image of the government and undermine public trust in institutions.

Congressmen from various political groups have supported this initiative, arguing that Boluarte has not provided a satisfactory explanation about the origin of the luxurious objects that have been seen on his wrist on multiple occasions.

The document, formally presented this morning, has more than 26 signatures and indicates that Boluarte has been untruthful by not declaring the Rolex in its financial records before the National Elections Jury and the Comptroller General of the Republic. Furthermore, his claim that the watches are vintage is criticized.
