V. Zelenskis will meet with the leaders of the Nordic countries in Oslo

As Ukraine launched a counteroffensive this summer that has yet to yield the desired results, Zelensky is trying to rally support among Ukraine’s allies amid growing discontent.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahrs Store said he wished Zelenskiy a “warm welcome in Norway”, adding that Oslo “will continue to support the defense of Ukraine”.

The President of Ukraine will first sit down at the negotiation table with JG Store, and then his meeting with the leaders of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden is being prepared.

On the Telegram social network, V. Zelenskiy wrote that he would talk with the leaders of the Nordic countries “about strengthening defense, political and economic cooperation, about our common future in Europe.”

“Our goal is security and just and lasting peace on the continent,” he emphasized.

After a visit to Argentina, where he attended the inauguration of libertarian President Javier Millei on Sunday, Zelenskiy traveled to the United States to ask for military assistance.

He left Washington without being able to convince a divided Congress to approve a new $60 billion budget. dollar (€55.6 billion) aid package, only to say that he had received positive signals.

His surprise visit to Oslo will be aimed at consolidating the support of the Nordic countries, which have been important aid providers since the outbreak of full-scale war in February 2022.

Earlier this year, Norway announced a 6.8 billion euro package of civil and military aid to Ukraine for the period 2023-2027.

Norway and Denmark have supplied Ukraine with tanks, weapons and ammunition and promised to donate F-16 fighter jets to the Ukrainian military.

Sweden is considering a gift of Gripen fighter jets.

US President Joe Biden, speaking after talks with V. Zelensky on Tuesday, warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin expects the United States to leave Ukraine to its fate.

“We must, must, must prove him wrong,” Mr. Biden said. He said abandoning Ukraine would embolden Putin “and future aggressors everywhere.”

Mr. Biden said that he confirmed that another 200 million will be allocated to Ukraine in the coming weeks. dollars (185.5 million euros) in US military aid, and the White House has warned that the funds could run out by the end of the year if Congress does not approve new funding.

But U.S. Republicans say renewing aid to Ukraine will depend on Democrats first agreeing to action on the U.S.-Mexico border and immigration reform, one of the toughest issues in U.S. politics.

Meanwhile, Moscow has claimed new gains on the battlefield and explained on Tuesday that any new aid to Kyiv would be a fiasco.
