Ukraine’s air force said on Tuesday it had destroyed a Russian navy ship suspected of carrying drones near annexed Crimea.
“On December 26, around 2 a.m. 30 minutes (local and Lithuanian time) tactical aviation of the Air Force attacked the large landing ship “Novocherkassk” of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation in the Feodosia region with cruise missiles,” the Ukrainian Air Force said on the Telegram social network.
The main base of the Russian Navy is located in Feodosia.
Earlier, Ukraine announced that it had destroyed the Novocherkassk ship during this attack, which was believed to be carrying Iranian-made Shahed drones.
Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, released a video showing the explosion at the Moscow naval base in Feodosia.
They also added that from December 25 6:30 p.m. until December 26 03.00 a.m. the enemy attacked from the southeast with Shahed-type attack drones. A total of 19 suicide bombers were launched from Balaklava – Crimea and Primorsk-Akhtarsk – Russian Federation regions.
“As a result of the airstrike, the Air and Defense Forces of Ukraine destroyed 13 Shahed-136/131 attack drones in the Odesa, Kherson, Mykolaiv and Khmelnytskyi regions,” the statement said.
A little later, the head of Crimea appointed by Moscow announced that one person was killed and two others were wounded in Tuesday’s attack.
“Unfortunately, during an enemy attack in Feodosia, one person was killed and two others were injured,” S. Aksionov told Telegram.
Six residential buildings were also damaged in the attack and their residents were evacuated, he said.
Served in the Black Sea Fleet
