V. Mitalas at the conference of presidents of European parliaments: let’s introduce sanctions for those who evade criminal responsibility

“We must fully support Ukraine until victory over the aggressor. If we do not achieve the defeat of Russia, if we do not ensure the accountability of its leaders and all war criminals in the International Court of Justice, and the obligation to compensate Ukraine, we will not achieve lasting peace in our war-ravaged continent.

Russia crossed all possible limits in this war: from the bombing of kindergartens to the destruction of energy infrastructure during the cold, from economic and energy blackmail to the killing and poisoning of opposition figures”, V. Mitalas emphasized in his speech to the presidents of the parliaments.

The elder of the Freedom faction of the Seimas called on the leaders of the states to ensure the operation of the registry of damage caused by Russian aggression against Ukraine, among the founders of which is Lithuania.

“I spoke to leaders about the need to take action to ensure that the registry of damage caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is up and running quickly and comprehensively.” This is the first step towards creating an international compensation mechanism for the damage caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in order to ensure that justice is restored and felt by every person who suffered damage and loss.

I called for the implementation of the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe itself to create a public register of companies and individuals participating in the evasion of sanctions, and to introduce criminal liability for intentional assistance in achieving and helping to avoid sanctions,” said the Seimas Vice-Chairman.
