Memory plays a big role in the entire computer and has a certain impact on the daily use experience.

In recent years, the so-called non-binary capacity, that is, 24GB, 48GB and other digital memories have appeared one following another with the popularity of DDR5. It is uncertain whether it will replace the binary capacity memory in the past. Some players may have concerns regarding memories with larger numbers. This is a certain preference.

Recently, when we tested the GIGABYTE AORUS 16X (2024), we also received the DDR5 5600MT/s 48GB x2 S0-DIMM provided by V-Color.

V-Color DDR5 5600MT/s 48GB x2 SO-DIMM is launched in a pack of 2, which is in line with the behavior of replacing laptops together. After all, if you want to install such a large capacity SO-DIMM, you will not only install a single one, but often replace it. 2 SO-DIMMs are replaced simultaneously.

This time V-Color’s 48GB SO-DIMM uses SK Hynix particles. Each SO-DIMM is composed of 16 particles. The model is H5CG D8MHB0. The capacity of a single particle is 24Gb. The native clock should be 6400MT/s. As for The timing is CL52-52-52, but the V-Color is downgraded to DDR5-5600MT/s, and the timing is CL46-45-45.

The 13th or 14th Gen series processors code-named Raptor Lake or Raptor Lake Refresh support DDR4 3200MT/s or DDR5 5600MT/s. Therefore, the relevant approach is mainly due to the fact that most laptops using 13th, 14th Gen or Core Ultra series processors There is no possibility of reaching DDR5-6400MT/s.

In addition, in Intel’s planning, the Intel Core Ultra 2 series, that is, the Arrow Lake series processors, will natively support DDR5-6400MT/s. Sources also mentioned that SK Hynix’s DDR5-6400MT/s chips will not enter mass production until Q3, which is consistent with the possibility that Intel will start natively supporting DDR5-6400MT/s in Core Ultra 2.

At the same time, this also announces that Intel will fully shift to DDR5 memory starting from the Arrow Lake generation, abandoning the practice of supporting both DDR4 and DDR5 in Alder Lake, Raptor Lake or Raptor Lake Refresh.

As mentioned earlier, the GIGABYTE AORUS 16X (2024) laptop was used for this test. At first, it was not possible to confirm whether it might be supported. Later, we received confirmation from GIGABYTE and V-Color. We have a machine with an Intel Core i7-14700HX processor. Can support 48GB x2 memory configuration.

Before replacing the memory, we recommend that the laptop itself be set up and updated first. This will ensure that the BIOS, drivers and applications of the AORUS 16X (2024) are at the latest version.

After the BIOS, drivers and applications were all up to date, we actually encountered another problem when installing V-Color DDR5-5600MT/s 48GB x2 SO-DIMM. The first boot-up took too long, which made us doubtful. Memory is not supported on this laptop.

After a while, the AORUS 16X (2024) laptop equipped with 48GB x 2 SO-DIMM finally booted into the Windows 11 desktop.

We will quickly provide the data of V-Color DDR5-5600MT/s 48GB x2 SO-DIMM with GIGABYTE AORUS 16X (2024) for your reference. We will provide more test data with V-Color DDR5-5600MT/s 48GB x2 SO-DIMM. Let everyone use it as a reference in the actual measurement of GIGABYTE AORUS 16X (2024).

Numbers such as Latency, Read, Write, and Copy are actually not very important in laptops with large-capacity memory, because you don’t have many choices. To be honest, whether it makes sense to configure a laptop with such a large memory capacity depends on each person’s use situation, and at this stage, 48GB x2 SO-DIMM is not cheap, and 32GB x2 may be much cheaper.

During the test, we found that GIGABYTE AORUS 16X (2024) configured with 48GB x2 SO-DIMM can execute LM Studio and Llama 2 70b language model. In fact, following execution, it occupies approximately 70GB of memory capacity.
