Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) and FPÖ leader Marlene Svazek said on Wednesday followingnoon something regarding the intermediate status of the coalition negotiations – without asking questions regarding the content and division of departments.
On May 3, the ÖVP and the FPÖ started talks regarding the formation of a new state government. There were no content announcements at the time, it was “too early” to talk regarding the allocation of departments, said Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) at the time. “First comes the coordination of content.” Two weeks or a few days of negotiations later, Haslauer and FPÖ leader Marlene Svazek (FPÖ) invited once more to a press conference. It started 50 minutes later than announced. The two party leaders made a four-minute statement – Haslauer and Svazek did not want to answer questions from journalists.
Haslauer and Svazek deny “noise”
The talks so far have been constructive and in a good working atmosphere, said Haslauer. In terms of content, one or two points are still open. “It would be surprising if nothing remained,” said Svazek. What those are remains unclear. Next week it should be discussed who will take responsibility in which areas, according to the governor. In the past few days, there has been “a lot to read” regarding it in the media. The fact that there was a lot of noise during the negotiations and that tatters flew is not true. And: “We have not yet discussed the division of departments with a single sentence,” said the ÖVP boss. “We have mutually agreed not to disclose anything,” said Svazek. After the negotiations, they want to “present an overall package and not just details that then trigger any misguided discussions,” said Haslauer.
