UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center has recently implemented a new robotic-assisted surgical system, expanding its surgical services to include this innovative technology. Robotic-assisted surgeries offer a wide range of benefits for patients, including reduced pain during recovery, lower risk of infection, minimized blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and smaller scars.

The implementation of this new robotic-assisted surgical system allows the medical center to invest further in the advantages and outcomes of robotic surgery. Patients no longer need to travel to another facility or get a referral to receive innovative treatments locally.

Dr. Leonardo Espinel, a general surgeon at UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center, explained, “Providing robotic-assisted surgical care greatly improves our patients’ recovery and allows them to return to living their healthiest lives sooner. The expansion of our surgical program demonstrates our commitment to providing cutting-edge technology that facilitates faster recovery and decreases pain for our patients.”

UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center has been at the forefront of transforming care through recent innovations such as the new linear accelerator, which has been treating radiology oncology patients since July, and the transition to a new electronic medical records system that seamlessly coordinates care across all UVA Health facilities.

The robotic-assisted surgical system at UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center will be utilized for various abdominal surgeries, including gallbladder conditions, hernias, acid reflux surgery, and bowel surgery.

Donna Staton, the Chief Operations Officer of UVA Health, expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m thrilled that UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center now offers robotic-assisted surgery. Keeping our patients in their community for all of their care is an important part of UVA Health’s strategic goal to provide access to the highest-quality and safest care.”
