FBI agents shot dead a Utah man who had threatened to assassinate US President Joe Biden, as they executed an arrest warrant issued once morest him on Wednesday, hours before Biden’s scheduled visit to the western US state.

And the FBI confirmed the death of a suspect when his agents tried to implement a warrant to search his home and arrest him in Provo, south of Salt Lake City.

The office refused to reveal the identity of the dead man, given that the investigation is still ongoing, but a complaint filed by federal prosecutors in the state of Utah previously mentioned that his name is Craig Robertson, who is in his early seventies.

The complaint said Robertson, who describes himself as a “Trump loyalist,” repeatedly threatened Biden and other officials on social media.

In a post this week, Robertson wrote, “I heard Biden is coming to Utah,” adding, “I’m going to dust off an M24 sniper rifle.”

“You’re welcome, clown,” he continued.

In addition to Biden, the complaint stated that Robertson also made threats once morest Vice President Kamala Harris and Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“Time is right for a presidential assassination or two,” the suspect wrote in one of his posts, adding, “First Joe, then Kamala.”

He also threatened to shoot Manhattan Attorney General Alvin Bragg, who charged former President Donald Trump with an election-eve payment to buy a porn star’s silence.

The complaint included photos Robertson posted on social media of a wide range of weapons, including a semi-automatic rifle dubbed the “Democrat Slayer”.

Biden is currently visiting the western United States and is set to move Wednesday from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Salt Lake City, Utah.

The US Secret Service, which protects the president, said it was “aware of an FBI investigation of an individual in Utah who made the most significant threats to an official protected by the Secret Service,” without providing further details.
