DIRECTOR Joko Anwar returns with his first religious horror film entitled Siksa Kubur.
This film has the tagline, “You Will Believe”, which makes Joko Anwar try to provide a presentation with practical effects without computer manipulation, so as to give a real impression to the audience.
“The tagline is You Will Believe. We try to use practical effects, like what we saw earlier. Most of us use practical effects so that the results are organic and realistic,” said Joko Anwar, in the press conference session for the film Siksa Kubur, in Jakarta South, Wednesday (3/4).
It is also possible that computer manipulation might also be used in this process, such as the seven-headed creature that appears in between films.

“Except, maybe it’s difficult to find something like the seven-headed creature, in Ragunan it no longer exists,” he continued while laughing.
Joko Anwar or who is usually called Jokan emphasized that the basic parts in the film came from religious teachings that he had studied. Everything is not the result of a separate imagination or composition.
“Everything is from the hadith, there is no making it up,” stressed Jokan.

Meanwhile, Joko Anwar admitted that he had the desire that Indonesian horror films might be taken international with extraordinary horror characters.
“Currently, we see other countries including pop culture, such as Korea, K-Pop. Meanwhile, Indonesia is the biggest horror character. Our horror characters are extraordinary and must be fresh, because if not, they will be abandoned. So our film Siksa Kubur is a story horror that has novelty,” said the director.
Joko Anwar also said that with the film Siksa Kubur, it is hoped that it will encourage the audience to recall their understanding of beliefs regarding the consequences of a sinful act.

The film Siksa Kubur tells the story of a girl named Sita who doesn’t believe in religion and the torture of the grave following her parents became victims of a suicide bombing.
This made Sita try to prove to herself that the torment of the grave was not real by finding the most sinful person and going to his grave with her.
The plan is that the film, starring Faradina Mufti, Reza Rahadian, and other cast members, will be shown in cinemas on April 11 2024, during the Eid celebrations. (Z-1)
