According to Joëlle Emond, president of the Ordre des diététistes-nutritionnistes du Québec, “under no circumstances does artificial intelligence replace the opinion of health professionals”, especially in specific cases.

She also points out that even ChatGPT itself admits that it is more vigilant to rely on the advice of a professional.

Moreover, having tested the tool, the nutritionist reveals that ChatGPT offers a variety of unequal and imprecise answers, but that it is necessary to have rather in-depth knowledge to be able to use discernment when faced with this information.

Knowing that ChatGPT is inspired by data collected on the web, “the first concern I have is the level of data accuracy. Information on the Internet, there is very good and there is downright disinformation, ”says the expert.

Ms. Emond believes that the experiment involves a risk in terms of the information provided in the question as well as in the interpretation of the answer.

Also, “there is the whole notion of an ethical issue that a lot of experts are looking into, including the World Health Organization, and in Quebec, the Council on Innovation with which we collaborate,” she says. .

AI remains “a good starter for a relevant conversation with a health professional”.

Joëlle Emond says, however, that this tool can be used in various nutrition contexts.

In particular, “in the future, we will be able to use artificial intelligence to come and take pictures” of what we eat in a day in order to indicate the number of calories ingested.
