Elon Musk it seems not to be happy with the volume of subscriptions to the Premium plan, and, it seems, it may expand this modality to all users by requiring the payment of a fee to use X (ex-Twitter). To achieve this, Musk must implement new features on the social network, making it even more attractive to the community.

X CEO Linda Yaccarino confirmed in August this year that The company is working on developing voice and video calling features and may launch these new features in the coming months. The functions, however, should only be available to paying customers, expanding the number of exclusive features.

This statement was shared with the community by programmer and informant Chris Messina, who, searching the social network’s source code, found traces of the calling option. He explains that verified accounts will be able to connect to each other, but did not confirm limitations regarding the privacy and security of platform users.

“Take messaging to the next level with audio and video calling. Activate the feature and select who you’re comfortable using it with,” the feature description says. Another part of the text highlights the need to be a subscriber to be able to take advantage of the calling feature: “audio and video calls are a premium feature”, it states.

A survey states that X (formerly Twitter) managed to sell just one million paid subscriptions, a volume considered small considering the more than 500 million registered accounts. The low adoption seems to be related to the lack of attractions in the paid option, which currently offers the blue badge, fewer ads, the possibility of editing posts and more.

For now, there is still no information about when voice and video calls will be introduced in the application, but the developer is expected to launch it later this year.
