Users using prepaid cards need to be alert: you may be left without a connection | Business

“There are still thousands of customers of prepaid services in Lithuania who use devices that do not support 4G and newer communication technologies. This means that turning off 3G will result in significantly reduced call and internet quality for these users, and in some cases, no connection at all. This change is happening all over the world, because 3G is an outdated, no longer efficient technology,” emphasizes Dr. E. Stankevičius.

According to him, there are only about 17 thousand prepaid services in the Pildyk network. people who may be affected by the 3G shutdown. Some customers use old push-button phones that only connect to 3G or 2G connections. Even decades-old devices such as the Nokia 100, Nokia 1616, Blackberry or iPhone 3 are still not being abandoned by the population.

“These devices are incompatible with modern communication technologies. Outdated equipment can be renewed without changing your habits – the range is full of modern push-button phones that support 4G and even 5G connection,” assures Dr. E. Stankevičius.

For those who haven’t updated their devices in a long time or don’t remember the last time they changed their SIM card, the Tele2 Network Planning and Strategy Guide advises to visit the nearest salon or contact your operator. Residents can renew their SIM cards free of charge at the operator’s salons.

Residents will be given new opportunities

The 3G connection that appeared at the turn of the millennium is gradually losing its relevance – the old generation 3G connection has already been completely abandoned or many countries around the world are implementing network shutdown. Among them – Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Hungary, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, United Kingdom, Spain, Greece, Japan.

“In order for new technologies to work efficiently and qualitatively, and for resources to be sufficient for everyone, special frequencies are needed. By decommissioning old technologies, the frequencies they use can be used even more efficiently in 4G and 5G networks. Generally speaking, turning off the almost obsolete 3G connection will make the most used 4G and 5G connections work better,” says Dr. E. Stankevičius.

According to him, shutting down the 3G communication network will give customers the opportunity to use advanced voice transmission technologies such as VoLTE, which is used by more and more people, even more conveniently. It transmits voice not through a normal mobile signal, but through mobile data. As a result, voice quality becomes incomparably clearer, latency is reduced, and the overall user experience during voice calls is improved.
