An anonymous user has managed to sow confusion in the technological world by impersonating the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, on social media. Even company vice presidents fell for it, before the fake account was removed.

Cook, known for his discretion and reluctance to share details of his personal life online, maintains a limited presence on social media. Although he owns a Twitter account where he occasionally comments on company releases and his personal interests, his online activity is sparse and measured.

Recently, however, an Instagram account emerged under the username @tim.d.cook, which apparently belonged to the CEO of Apple. The account, created in July of this year, contained only two posts: one related to World Photo Day and another promoting a campaign for animals in need of mobility prostheses.

The authentic appearance of the account managed to deceive more than one, including vice presidents of Apple, according to the report by Applesfera.

The case of Lisa P. Jackson

One of the most notable cases was that of Lisa P. Jackson, Apple’s vice president for the environment. Jackson is known for her participation in events and, most recently, for climbing on the roof of Apple Park to explain the company’s vision of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

However, the fake account has already been removed. Although the motives behind the phishing are still unclear, this incident has highlighted the importance of online security and the ease with which people can be deceived in the digital world.

Although it has not been confirmed whether Tim Cook or Apple will take legal action regarding this impersonation, it is possible that the situation will inspire the CEO to consider a greater online presence to avoid future misunderstandings of this type.
