The conference comes in the backdrop of the ECI’s proposal to use remote voting machines to allow internal migrants to vote
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will organize a two-day international conference with the participation of election management officials from various countries. Officials from 17 countries will participate in the conference on the theme ‘Use of Technology and Election Integrity’. This will be the second conference hosted by ECI under the US-led Summit for Democracy platform, the first of which was held in October with 50 delegates from 11 countries.
The conference comes in the backdrop of the ECI’s proposal to use remote voting machines to allow internal migrants to vote. But most of the political parties opposed this proposal of the Election Commission. The conference is attended by 43 participants from 17 countries/EMBs including Angola, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Chile, Croatia, Dominica, Fiji, Georgia, Indonesia, Kiribati, Mauritius, Nepal, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines and Suriname. ECI said in a statement that representatives from several foreign missions in New Delhi are also expected to attend the conference.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar will inaugurate the two-day conference. Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey will preside over the concluding session and Election Commissioner Arun Goyal will preside over the technical session. International Foundation for Electoral Systems and International IDEA will also participate in the conference.
