How to use YouTube Music to discover what music is playing

If you have music playing on loop In your head, one of the best ways to get rid of it – usually – is to listen to the full track. The problem is when you can’t remember the lyrics, the band name or the song title; making the search difficult.

Fortunately, if you’re a YouTube Music user, you don’t need anything else to finally find this or any other song!

Similar to what has been happening with Google Assistant for some time, the music streaming service has a built-in function to identify songs. And you don’t even need to know the words! Just activate the function and bring your cell phone closer to the audio source or hum the song yourself.

Check out how to use the resource below. For now, it is only available for the platform app for Android and iOS.

  • With YouTube Music open on your device, in the “Home” tab, tap the search icon at the top of the screen;
  • Now, tap the musical wave icon;
  • Play the song or hum it to your cell phone (even if you sing badly). Continue capturing the audio until the app delivers the search results;
  • Play or save the found track. If the result is incorrect, tap “Search again”.

If you couldn’t find the function in the app on your phone, make sure YouTube Music is properly updated. If the function still does not appear, restart the app and try again. In the last case, clear the application cache and try again.

Can’t find the song with YouTube Music?

Although the tool built into YouTube Music was very efficient in our tests, it is not perfect. In instrumental or death metalfor example, the humming function left a little to be desired (Maybe, largely because of who sang it lol).

In any case, you can try using other more complete or older tools – at least to try to do the job. As mentioned, Google Assistant has a similar function. SoundHound and Shazam can also help.
