According to the police, he had been spotted several times, had broken into houses to get food and had finally stolen a weapon. “Our nightmare is finally over and the good guys have won,” Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said at a news conference Wednesday. The people in the region might finally return to normality and breathe a sigh of relief.
Tracked down with a thermal imaging camera
On Wednesday night, the police were able to locate the man from the air using thermal imaging technology, according to George Bivens from the Pennsylvania police. However, the operation was initially canceled due to bad weather. A few hours later, the escaped prisoner was surrounded by police at the same location and finally arrested. Nobody was injured.
Television images showed how the visibly weakened man was led into a police car in handcuffs by heavily armed police officers.
The man was sentenced to life in prison in mid-August for stabbing his ex-girlfriend. On August 31, he escaped over the roof of a prison near Philadelphia.
Police later released surveillance video footage of the escape. Accordingly, the man climbed up a wall during a stay in an open-air area of the prison. He used a narrow corridor between two walls – supporting himself with his hands on one side and his feet on the other. The prisoner then overcame barbed wire and finally escaped over the roof. An employee in a watchtower did not notice the escape. A prison official said an inmate escaped in a similar manner in May. Since then, security precautions have been strengthened.
