Nissan confirmed that production of its full-size pickup truck ends next year as the brand transitions to electric vehicles.
Sales of the Nissan Titan will come to the end of the road in the summer of 2024
“Production of the Nissan Titan is scheduled to end in the summer of 2024 at our Canton, Mississippi plant,” Nissan Vice President of Communications Brian Brockman said in a statement.
Under Nissan’s Ambition 2030 vision of an electrified future, we are accelerating the transformation process of the Canton plant with the latest in electric vehicle manufacturing technology.
This will support the production of two all-new, all-electric vehicles. There will be no staff reductions due to this action.”
One of those EVs will be a Nissan, the other an Infiniti, according to a product preview from last year.
Nissan has been trimming the Titan lineup since it was last updated in 2020. The regular cab was dropped, then the diesel V-8, and then the Titan dropped out of the Canadian market.
Launched in 2004 to carve out part of the lucrative full-size pickup market dominated by American automakers, the Nissan Titan has never surpassed the top three best-selling vehicles in the US, including the Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado and the Ram truck.
Sales of the 2023 Nissan Titan in the first half of 2023 amounted to just 10,550 units.
The best-selling Ford F-Series sold 382,893 trucks during the same period. The Titan also mightn’t come close to the Toyota Tundra, fresh off a 2022 redesign that boosted sales of 59,735 models in the first half of 2023.
Regardless, the Titan remains one of the most affordable full-size trucks, with a price spectrum between roughly $42,000 for an S model and $64,000 for the top Platinum Reserve.
The 5.6-liter V-8 makes 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque and is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is optional for regarding $3,500 more.
It remains to be seen what will happen to the full-size Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX80 SUVs that share the Titan’s V-8 engine and platform.
