USA: Mississippi executed ex-Marine who raped and murdered 16-year-old girl

an ex-marine of USAwho admitted to the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in 2000, was executed Wednesday in the state of Mississippi.

Thomas Edwin Loden58, was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m. local time, after receiving a lethal injection at the Parchman penitentiary, in that southern state.

Loden pleaded guilty to the kidnapping of Leesa Gray in 2000, who was isolated on a rural road after her vehicle had a flat tire.

The former Marine, a gunnery sergeant and recruiter for that force, admitted to raping her multiple times in his van before suffocating and then strangling her.

Thomas Edwin Loden he was found the next day on the side of the road with the words “I’m sorry” that he branded himself on his chest, according to court documents.

In 2001, the man was sentenced to capital punishment. His execution is the first in Mississippi this year and the second since 2013.

Loden is the 18th detainee to be executed in the United States in 2022.
