USA: Kamala Harris leads according to new poll – Which voters support her 2024-08-09 17:43:46

Trying to stop Harris’ momentum over the past two weeks, the Republican has launched attacks against her, questioning her background and her mental health.

According to a new CBS poll, 50% of voters today say they want to vote for Harris, compared to 49% for Trump. Harris’ lead is negligible and within the poll’s margin of error — but it’s a lead that Joe Biden has never had before.

The current vice president seems to be supported mainly by women and black voters. Significantly, compared to July, more blacks today say they plan to go to the polls in November.

The challenge for Kamala Harris will be to maintain this positive momentum for the next three months, until November 5th. An important stage will be the announcement of the candidate who will take over the vice-presidency, if she is elected president. All of the potential candidates are white men, and according to several US media outlets, three of them are in Washington to speak with her in person today: Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Gov. Tim Waltz, who is not so well known to the public. The names of Andy Beshear, the governor of Kentucky, as well as the current Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttige are also mentioned.

Harris’ staff has already announced that on Tuesday the Democratic nominee and her running mate will embark on a tour of at least seven swing states that could decide the election.
