Uruguay secured its third consecutive victory in Kansas City, Missouri, to take first place in Group C and eliminate the United States from the Copa América.
Second place in the group went to Panama, which did its part by beating Bolivia 3-1 in Orlando, Florida.
Uruguay rounded out the ideal of nine points, followed by Panama with six, the USA with three and Bolivia at the bottom with empty coffers.
In the quarter-finals, Uruguay will travel to Las Vegas and await the team that will come second in Group D between Colombia, Brazil or Costa Rica in the Copa América.
Panama will go to Glendale, Arizona, and will face the first in D.
Uruguay took the lead in the 66th minute when Nicolas De La Cruz converted a free kick. U.S. goalkeeper Matt Turner turned in a header from Ronald Araújo, who had beaten Tim Ream in the air.
Olivera appeared to be offside with the first header but the goal was confirmed by the VAR.
The U.S.’s elimination might add fuel to calls for the U.S. federation to fire coach Gregg Berhalter ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which the country will co-host with Mexico and Canada.
