A tragic incident involving three dead children is causing a stir in New York. The siblings – a four-month-old boy, a four-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy – were found around 4:40 a.m. on a riverbank just three blocks from their mother’s home and were unresponsive, as the “New York Post» writes.

The 30-year-old mother had told relatives she had “drowned all three children” and was later found barefoot and in a bathrobe on the beach, appearing “desperate,” police and other sources said. According to a police officer, the mother was “soaking wet” when she was arrested.

Several relatives were worried regarding children

An intense search for the mother and her three children began regarding three hours before the children were found on the beach when a relative called police raising concerns that the mother might have done something to the children. According to sources, the mother was first questioned by the police and then taken to a hospital on a stretcher.

According to prosecutors, several other family members called 911 to report that the mother “might have done something to the children.” In addition, relatives said she may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs and had a history of mental health problems.

Life-saving measures came too late

After an intensive search, which also involved helicopters and ships, officials found the unresponsive children. “Officials immediately began life-saving measures, including CPR on the children, following which they were taken to Coney Island Hospital,” a police spokesman said. Unfortunately, they were declared dead there.

The children’s autopsies are ongoing and no charges have yet been filed, the sources said. The police are looking for witnesses.
