The profit of the manufacturer of computing devices Dell was 241 million dollars (235 million euros) in the third quarter of its fiscal year, ended in October, which represents a decrease of 94% compared to the profits of the same period of the previous year, as reported by the company.
The large change in net income is due to financial outliers. While they had a negative impact of 1,308 million (1,275 million euros) in the quarter, a year ago they had a positive effect of 3,501 million dollars (3,413 million euros).
Revenues in the quarter were 24,721 million dollars (24,096 million euros), therefore they fell by 6%. Net income from the sale of products fell by 10%, to 18,938 million dollars (18,459 million euros), while those originating from services grew by 6%, to 5,783 million (5,637 million euros).
On the other hand, expenses associated with income fell by 9%, to 19,014 million dollars (18,533 million euros), while sales, general and administrative expenses stood at 3,268 million (3,185 million euros), 15% less. The research and development (R&D) item was 677 million (660 million euros), 4% more.
In this way, in the whole of the first nine months of its fiscal year, Dell’s net profit was 1,816 million dollars (1,770 million euros), which represents a drop of 68% compared to the same period of the previous year. . On its side, net sales were 77,262 million dollars (75,310 million euros).
